The Laird's Widow

I cannot believe today is the day!!!

The Laird, the widow, and I have journeyed for going on three years to bring this story to life. 

Flashback to the Summer of 2020 for a hot minute.

I know. Only a minute—I promise. Man, that summer was a cocktail of fear, uncertainty, and good ole' topsy-turvy, head-scratching, what the heck is happening face palming. Despite it all, or maybe because of it, our fam decided to take our annual vacay to our favorite spot and enjoy the wide-open sand, sun, and salt. 

True to the time, a handshake under the tent followed by a scary diagnosis drove us from paradise to quarantine. 

Ugh.

I'm an enneagram 3; therefore, I am itching for something to check off while confined to the four walls. Enter an online writing contest about a highlander, Viking, or warrior. One chapter. That's it.

​I can do that, right? It's that or fret about toilet paper, so what did I have to lose?

Wrote it, pitched it in, not expecting to hear a word. (Although I read it to my husband, and with a raised eyebrow, he asked, "So, what are you going to do when they want more?" I shrugged my shoulders, kissed him on the cheek, and answered, "Very unlikely.")

Well, honey, I should have listened. They wanted more. 

Then they wanted some more. 

And in the midst of life after quarantine (back-to-back seniors with all the football and volleyball one could hope for), I found myself treading through the drama/turmoil/adventure of 1729 Scotland for 75,000 words.

Long story short...negotiations followed, and I found a home with Champagne Books. (Thank you, Becca and Cassie and that hard-working crew of wordsmiths.)

And here we are. 

Historical fiction is a one-off for me. If you've read my work, I live in the land of contemporary Christian fiction and short, funny devos.

But this was fun, and even though I blushed through some of the post-nuptial chapters (Thank you, Song of Solomon), I'm proud of the picture of marriage, grace under pressure, and healing in the face of the unknown.
