The Water Keeper by Charles Martin

Y'all. Li-sten.
Charles Martin can write. And I don't just mean pen to paper, get the word count up, write. I mean, he pairs his proverbial pen with his research-fueled imagination, tosses in an outstanding vocabulary and hocus pocus, brilliant storytelling ensues. If you like in-depth character development, high-stakes fast-paced adventure, and gut-wrenching heartache with a tentative happy(ish) ending, you will want to add The Water Keeper to your summer reading list.

When I download on Audible (btw, excellent narrator in Jonathan K. Riggs), but I get too into the story and have to go to my local book store and buy the hardback to flip the pages myself, you know its good. Here are ten things to tell you about this read:
  • opening scene–you will go back and re-read once you have finished the book
  • RESEARCH (Mr. Martin digs in. You will learn about boats, traveling down the coast of Florida, and disturbing (and educational) intel on human trafficking.)
  • a super dog
  • an epic romance
  • falling in love and staying there
  • the meaning of family
  • sheep
  • the value of seeing someone
  • what it means to rescue and to heal
  • cliffhanger (Do I hear trilogy?)
I've read most of this author's books, and you cannot go wrong with any of them.

Happy Reading!
