1/13/2021 0 Comments The Year of the PencilVisions of hot-bed journalists, pointy instruments peeking from behind their ears tip-tapping away, marching toward a deadline in a smoky newsroom. Children of the 70's and 80's gnawing away on the center like a leg of Grandma's fried chicken. Sharpened bouquets, delighting my teacher-soul with nostalgic reminiscings about first days of school, un-cracked journals, and the overwhelming awareness of hopeful new beginnings.
Awwww. The Pencil. Powerful, right? To be honest, A LOT of pressure to put on wood and lead. Nevertheless, Pencil holds a special place in my heart. Or it did. {Insert pig tails and pouty face} All I can say is Pencil's PR rep must have decided to change the client's image. Like a romantic lead stretching for bigger and better, someone advised Pencil to ditch meet-cute and take on a spicy role, one where sweet took a backseat to hard-core this-is-life-lessons. Remember Meg Ryan? Yeah. Whereas sharpie, the hero, boldly proclaims, "It's happening. Set in stone. No going back. Get ready, get set...." Wait! Pencil, cast as the cruel villain, rubs its sleep-filled eyes, drinks a Monster, and raises its nubby hind-end in the air, wiggles around and says, "Not so fast..." GAH! Save SHARPIE. #yearofthepencil #dontcancelsharpie #penciltakeanap #cancelpencil
